Comment about Epson Perfection V700 Photo Flatbed Scanner
This scanner is perhaps best suited for people who want to scan slides and negatives; a fair amount of the price comes from the technology needed to do that well. I''ve had some problems scanning vintage postcards. The white background piece on the lid does not press firmly on the gl or the media, and does not seal snugly at the edges. The result is that while I get a good image of the card, the background has a blue cast that fades from left to right. I can get the blue to shift to gray without losing much accuracy on the postcard, but some shading is always there. If the background is fading from left to right, then is my postcard image doing the same? And shouldn''t I be able to get a true white background along with true image colors? I have spent hours tweaking the color settings using three different software packages--Epson, SilverFast, and VueScan--and I have tried putting white cover sheets between the lid and the postcards, but no success—any setting that yields a true white background does not accurately render the postcard colors. I think that if my postcards contained true whites (they do not) I would be in a jam. (Yes, I know: Every scanner captures differently, every monitor displays differently, every printer renders differently, and adjustments will always be required. I am accustomed to that and don''t think that''s the issue here.) I''ve done some experimenting with a white cover sheet on the back of the postcard and a white index card in front of the postcard. The whites will not go true white at any setting that does not distort the postcard colors. The short-term fix is to leave the lid up--the background comes out solid black, which works for me. I think the long term fix is to get an ICC color profile target and file, and re-calibrate the scanner. Maybe that will work, maybe not. If it turns out that the scanner won''t do accurate colors across a full spectrum, beginning with white, I''m gonna be ed.

Pros:
Good quality images.
Cons:
It could have more detailed instructions. Also, it''s a shame that ICE can''t be used for more types of originals.
Comment about Epson Perfection V700 Photo Flatbed Scanner
Maybe it''s just that I''m new to film scanning, but it would have helped to have it explained that when processing photos en me choosing the "ALL" button in the thumbnails panel doesn''t actually apply actions to all the images. Each thumbnail must be selected one at a time and processed before scanning for any edit to be applied. I believe there''s a batch process option, but as per my first "con" above, it''s difficult to locate the way to do it. Overall very pleased with results.

Scanner works great. The ICE technology does a great job on problem areas. Plentiful ortment of film holders included.
Cons:
Doentation is weak. For such a capable scanner little attention is focused on teaching you how to use it.

Pros:
Wow what perfect machine for just about every need to scan something, I have been scanning my 30 plus year old 35m slides. I have been using the auto mode to do it, and they are coming out great. I know that can get even better results if I use either of the two other modes but when you have over 2000 of my own and anothe 2000 of my father-in laws who has the time. I set up the slides press the scan button clic scan on the pop-up, and let it do it''s thing it even saves the image to the hard drive for you. I''m empressed.
Cons:
The one thing that was was a negitive, was that some of the software that came with the machine does not work on my vista64 operating system. You would think that if the computing industry is going that way that the software on a new piece of hardware would work.
