Pros:
Sharp, sharp, sharp. It is a prime so you really have to walk to frame your subjets right. The rewards are amazing though.. very vivid almos 3D images with the fantastic DOF (depth of field).
Cons:
None
Comments:
Probably the best deal for your money from Canon.

Pros:
it''s compact, very clean focus, very adaptable for portraits or objects. For me, it''s a lens I can''t do without. I love it.
Cons:
It feels a bit narrow - like I can''t really get everything I used to be able to get w/my 50mm lens on my canon AE1. I know there are technical explanations for this, but it''s just something to note

Pros:
Fast AF, sharp and excellent contrast stopped down to f/2.8 and smaller, lightweight.
Cons:
soft and low contrast at f/1.4, improves at f/2.0, focus ring has a little slack - MF feels inferior.
Comments:
Overall a good value!

Jasonlee on Jan 15, 2008
Pros:
very useful focal length on full frame camera, low light performance, beautiful bokeh and color, small and lightweight, fast focusing
Cons:
not inner focusing, on x1.6 dslr cameras, there are better substitutions
Comments:
This lens works beautifully on my 5d. This is the lens that I use most of the time since 50mm on FF camera is sooooo useful for everything. However, on my 40d which has 1.6 crop factor, this lens becomes outdoor portrait lens, which can be better substituted by canon 85mm f1.8. For indoor ing, sigma 30mm f1.4 worked better for me. If you use full frame dslr or film camera, this lens performs superbly just about anywhere, anytime.

Pros:
Light weight. Near L quality lens. Fast focusing. Quite operation. Great bokeh.
Cons:
Can''t really give this lens any negatives considering the price and quality you get. It''s not perfect, but perfect for the price
Comments:
Very difficult to really rate this lens since it pretty much sits alone in it''s cl. Compared to the 50L it''s not as sharp wide open but sharper when stopped down from 2.0 and up. The bokeh and color contrast are very good. Mind you, it''s no 50L but it''s also $1200 cheaper. Considering the price point, I think one would do much injustice to this lens and others who are considering purchasing if you are going to "nit pick" details. It''s an incredible value and it''s performance far exceeds it''s expectations from it''s price point. For those considering light weight and quality at a good price, don''t waste another minute searching the web for reviews that will push you to pull the trigger. Just do it and you will not regret.

Lance on Jun 21, 2009
Pros:
After a few weeks of using this lens it is providing results I expect; w/steady hand clear images from F/1.4 to 4.0. I have not engaged a tripod for Bulb or other low light situations. I expect, (being digital), this will only improve the lens performance. It was a pleasure to buy from PCNation online.
Cons:
Compared to my Minolta MD Rokkor-X lens for my film system, the outside feel and appearance are poor. I do not engage AF and the manual focus on this lens is not smooth. Worse, the focusing ring does not stop turning when it gets to limit! I read about this in other reviews before I purchased; it was NOT a deal breaker. Read below:
Comments:
This all said, it''s the "Gl" that matters most. Canon generates one of the best gl lens in the world; this fast F/1.4 lens is proof. For the price and being a perfect "all around" lens for your Canon system, buy it!

Pros:
Crisp Lens!! It is the nifty-fifty. Just buy it if you are deciding between the 1.8 or 1.4. You will not be disappointed with this 50mm f/1.4.
Cons:

Comments:
Great prime that is right up there, not an L, but like most have said, very close...

Leah on Jan 19, 2011
Pros:
This lense take great pictures with blurry backgrounds. It makes pictures very sharp and can take a picture in low lighting. Great lense to have in your bag! I was compairing the F1.8 and F1.4 lense. The F1.4 is better as in how its built. Also the colors in picture are bold and brighter compaired to the f1.8. The background blur is a better blend as well. If you aren''t wanting to spend that much money f1.8 is good and gets the job done but f1.4 is better.
Cons:
It doesn''t zoom..it only has a focus ring on the lense. So you have to adjust yourself for the angles you want. The focus point is a little tricky. Like one eye will be sharp and one will be blurry.
Comments:
You need to learn about the lense before using it just like anything else. You could use it on auto mode but manual mode is better when you adjust the fstop, shutter speed to get the best photos. I suggest you learn about fstop and shutter speed before you buy! Without a flash I can just use window light and it takes great pictures if I have it on the right setting! I was compairing the F1.8 and F1.4 lense. The F1.4 is better as in how its built. Also the colors in picture are bold and brighter compaired to the f1.8. The background blur is a better blend as well. If you aren''t wanting to spend that much money f1.8 is good and gets the job done but f1.4 is better in my opinion.

Pros:
Awesome portrait lens that will take great shots in just about any lighting condition. Small enough to always be in my "bag of tricks."
Cons:
Kind of a one-trick pony.
Comments:
Unless you know what to use this lens for, you should stay away from it. Also, I''d never use it on non-full frame camera.

Jenny on Feb 19, 2011
Pros:
Excellent in low-light situations; crisp image
Cons:
Very noisy auto-focus
Comments:
I purchased this lens for performance indoors and in other low-light situations. For this purpose it works very well. Unfortunately, the auto-focus makes a loud grinding noise when used, so generally I try to stick to manual focus.
