Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

The EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM is a lightweight, compact L Series telephoto zoom lens with Image Stabilizer. The optical Image Stabilization in the new EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens provides up to an incredible four stops of shake correction-a first for Canon IS lenses. The use of fluorite UD lens elements provides excellent optical performance in terms of resolution and contrast. These features, together with its water-and dust-proof construction, provide both the performance and portability to meet user demands.

Pros:
Excellent lense. Very light weigh, making it ideal for traveling and when factoring in IS, juat cant be beaten.

Pros:
Very light and easy to handle, can carry long periods without too much strain, much easier than the f 2.8 version
Cons:
could sometimes use the extra stop of the f 2.8
Comments:
photos have been very sharp and the focus so far has been right on the money

Pros:
Smaller and lighter than f2.8 version. I take it with me everywhere my camera goes. The IS is super for back of the sanctuary shots. I love the sharpness and the bokeh. Very smooth. I usually stopped down my Sigma 70-200 f2.8 to f4 or f4.5 anyway to get sharpness.
Cons:
None if you have the $1000 to spend
Comments:
Have a friend who has the f2.8 version. She does not carry it much unless she knows that she will use the lens. The f4 version is so much lighter and smaller. I take it with

Pros:
WOW! This is as good as it gets folks! Perhaps the best zoom lens on the market today not to mention the best one that Canon makes. It is unbelievable in every aspect. As a matter of fact it out performs it''s over rated cousin, the 2.8 IS, in most every technical test. I am going to include below the url of the German company(Photozone) that put the lens through it''s paces from distortions, vignetting, resolution(MTF),Chromatic Aberrations, etc. Remarkable!

None

http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Canon%20EOS%20Lens%20Tests/196-canon-ef-70-200mm-f4-usm-l-is-test-report--review I have also copy-pasted the verdict of Photozone below. "Every now and then EOS, the goddess of mercy, seems to speak to the Canon lens designers and this time they listened carefully. The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS may well be the very best tele zoom on the market today - it is certainly the best Canon zoom lens tested locally to date. The lens was capable to deliver a near-flawless performance is all categories. The resolution figures are stunning regardless of the setting. Distortions, vignetting and CAs are nothing to worry about. The build quality is excellent with the new sealing as a another highlight. On top of that the lens now features a image stabilizer with an efficiency equivalent to 4 f-stops (at cost of shutter speed). The only heartbreaking drawback for some is the price tag which increased significantly to a whopping grand - price/performance-wise this is still very sound though."

Pros:
great zoom range especially on a 1.6x crop body and coupled with a 1.4x multiplier adapter lens. nice OOF (out of focus). nice crisp, color vivid, contrasty, relatively distortionless pix.
Cons:
IS motor must be heftier than earlier 3-stop models because you can hear and feel it kick in.
Comments:
I like everything about this lens xcept for the noisy IS motor. I''ve seen comments on this in other forums. Must be by design. The pix are awesome and very professional looking. IS motor noise cost this review a superior rating.

Pros:
Incredible sharpness, lightweight/compact, fast focusing, excellent stabilization, smooth focusing/zooming
Cons:
None
Comments:
I''m using this lens on a Canon 5D. Also have the 24-105 f/4L and 85mm f/1.8. I came from ing Nikon f/2.8 zooms for the better part of 15 years. But when I switched systems, I considered Canon''s f/4 zooms with IS. As I don''t spend much time ing sports anymore, I figured size/weight savings of the f/4 and addition of 4-stop IS would more than compensate. So far, I am quite happy with the lens. The performance of the lens is as good as people here say it is and I don''t regret not getting the f/2.8 version. The 4-stop stabilizer is really amazing and works as advertised. You can really notice the difference at 200mm. Compared to the other lenses I have, this one seems sharper than the 24-105 and at least as good if not better than the 85/1.8. It is a lot bigger and conspicuous than the 85, so I still prefer that for discreet candids. Overall, I highly recommend the 70-200 f/4L IS. To me, the stabilizer, extra sealing and new lens formulation is worth the extra $500 or so over the non-IS version.
